The myth of Sisyphus is baked deep into our collective psyche: as punishment for tricking his way out of the land of the dead, Sisyphus is tasked with perpetually rolling a massive boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down. Such a simple premise, so tragically relatable.

For this project, I wanted to create a video that loops infinitely, but progresses over time. It’s never quite the same loop twice – just like Sisyphus’s sentence.

I used collaged found photography to create a landscape made of several planes that shift more slowly as they recede into the distance. I wrote code to use color values from the video to compose the soundtrack in real time.
