Illuminations
The Plenary, Co.
In October of 2023, I helped The Plenary, Co. launch “Illuminations,” a large-scale event in at The Foundry in San Francisco.
The show featured six different artists, each tackling a different social or environmental issue. The concept, layout, and material choices of the exhibition were all designed specifically to foster in-person interactions between participants. We brought in local experts, themed cocktails, and soundscapes created by DJ and storyteller Masika Henson, who specializes in climate resilience and environmental policy – all to add depth and nuance to the emergent conversations taking place around the artwork. More info at The Plenary, Co.’s website, here.
My role was to lead the exhibit design from layout through production to installation. We built custom free-standing walls for the space, so I laid out, designed, and engineered those walls, and supervised the build, install, and de-install with San Francisco-based fabricators One Hat One Hand. I shepherded all the graphics from digital file through prepress and printing into install. I also designed and fabricated the custom graphic elements as well as all the wall text and information panels.
